In Octi, pieces can jump like checkers but only in the direction of their spikes. One may jump over pieces of either color, and multiple jumps are allowed. The jumping player may capture any piece that is jumped, at his/her option.
Instead of jumping, a player may add a spike, move a piece one square in the direction of its spikes, or bring a reserve piece onto the board. The object of the game is to occupy all three of the opponent's dark squares.
This months problem: Now that the marauding Blue spider has moved in for an attack, it appears that Red is sure to lose a couple of its pieces. But Red has a nice solution to its problems, one that is certain to make the Blue player wince.
