ONE GAME TO RULE THEM ALL?
Recently, there have been several people who have asked me to name my favourite game. Unfortunately, I can never give them a simple answer as there's no game that I feel confident in elevating above all others, to my mind there's too great a variety to be able to single one out. By variety, I mean games that are significantly different in approach and feel from others. I love Tigris & Euphrates and I'm extremely fond of TransAmerica but they offer very different experiences so it's practically impossible to judge them with the same yardstick.
On the other hand, if you consider specific types or categories of games, I find I can give a more useful answer. It's much easier for me to name my favourite trading game or my favourite negotiation game. Generally, games that fall into these types of categorizations are similar enough that they can be judged against one another. Hmmm, I may have to start thinking up a few categories and lists...
