A MODERN QUILL DOTH COME TOO SHORT
A very small issue this month I'm afraid. The main reason for this of course was that I was traveling throughout Europe for most of the previous month. I had a wonderful time in Amsterdam and Belgium and of course Essen, Germany where I attended the annual Spiel fair for the second time. This is one of the two events at which most of the new German games are introduced to the public. (The other event is in Nuremberg in February and is mainly industry only.) 150,000 people (give or take a few) attend every year over the course of the four days and most game companies have some sort of presence there including many from the English-speaking world. There are a great number of reports on all the juicy new games floating around the internet and I'd encourage you to seek them out. I've got just a few little nuggets in my report this month as I'll be writing a longer report for an upcoming issue of Counter magazine.
There are certain games that keeping popping up in different version after different version. One such game is Liar's Dice which has seen a number of different incarnations. (Including a 1993 version called Bluff that won that year's prestigious Spiel des Jahres.) Find out why...
