Welcome! The Games Journal was a monthly magazine about boardgames which ran from July, 2000 until September, 2005. A declining number of submissions forced us to shut our doors (metaphorically speaking) and abandon the regular, monthly issues. However, we have kept the site up and running since we feel that there is great value in the articles, reviews, puzzles, letters and original rules that we published during our run. Please visit our archives to view everything we ever published. Despite being officially defunct, we will very occasionally add an article or review — the most recent additions are listed below: Greg Aleknevicus explains why he created an online moderator. Greg Aleknevicus Articles - June 25, 2011 Yehuda Berlinger discusses ethical behaviour for designers and publishers. Yehuda Berlinger Articles - June 11, 2006 Winning the race is easy, but can you win the game? Thorin N. Tatge Puzzles - June 2, 2006 |
Can a game really be about exploring the Amazon if it can easily be re-themed to the terror of the French Revolution? Is it realistic to simply add floors to an existing skyscraper? Did ancient explorers really decide the orientation of the islands they discovered? Greg Aleknevicus August, 2004 |
